NHS Volunteer Responders in England can help with shopping, a prescription collection or a friendly chat.
People needing support can self-refer if they think they meet the qualifying criteria. Carers can make a referral for someone they care and for themselves, if this support helps them continue in their caring role.
You can self refer if you or the person you care for:
- Are 70 or older and have an underlying health condition.
- Are in the ‘extremely vulnerable’ to Covid-19 group and have been sent a letter asking you to shield from the virus
- Are pregnant
- Are newly socially vulnerable as a result of Covid-19
- Have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010
- Have a high-risk condition, such as:
- chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
- Have a serious heart condition
- Are immunocompromised including because of cancer treatment
- Are obese with a body mass index (BMI) over 40
- Have an medical condition, particularly if not well controlled, such as diabetes, dementia, renal failure, or liver disease
